Urban Scrawl 2024

Background

A 2-Day arts festival organized by the Franklinton Arts District.  Urban Scrawl has been an annual event since 2007, featuring art murals from over 60 local artists.  This is one of central Ohio’s largest urban renewal projects.

VisualOhio returned to cover this event after the fun we had last year! Check out the images and impressions below!

Please note that a lot of the pieces you’ll see from the artists are “in progress” and may not represent the finished piece. We’ve tried to go back in some cases and record the completed pieces when possible.

Urban Scrawl has always been one of our favorite annual events. The artists have such a wide variety of topics, styles and mediums that we are pleasantly surprised by the level of talent each year.

The vast amount of preparation that goes into these projects is amazing. From concept design to getting the supplies to implementation. Big murals and big ideas require large amounts of preparation.

Last year Urban Scrawl moved to a more cool fall season in October, and this year got bumped up to a September timeframe.

The location has also changed slightly from last year as well. Still in the same part of town, but it is back inside the parking area of 400 W. Rich Street, a side street was blocked off to make room food trucks and vendors.

Local artists spaces in the Town Street building was also open for the public to go in and see the work and some artists were even selling some pieces.

Music is also an important part of the Urban Scrawl experience. The DJ’s were back, pumping out music for the duration of the 2 day event.

Urban Scrawl has always been an experience. It has also been a fun time for all ages. If you are looking for a free, fun and artistic stop during the late summer and early fall each year in Columbus, Urban Scrawl should be an entry into your “to-do” calendar!
