Background

The London Arts Center in London, Ohio, operates as the public face of the London Visual Arts Guild (LVAG), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed to promote visual art and art education throughout London and Madison County. The guild traces its roots to a group of local artists who organized around 2008; it later obtained its current nonprofit status and settled into a dedicated downtown space after earlier years at Gallery On High. Its mission is straightforward: benefit residents by encouraging the visual arts, showcasing work by members, students, and the public, and hosting exhibitions, workshops, meetings, and social events where people can make, discuss, and critique art.

Today the Center at 121 East First Street, London, OH 43140 serves as a low-cost community hub. It offers youth and adult classes in drawing, painting, clay, photography, sewing, and digital media; free Tuesday Open Studio hours; a monthly writers-and-illustrators group; themed community exhibitions that invite entries from Madison County residents; featured-artist gallery shows; and occasional public events such as Art on the Green. Affordable memberships help keep programs accessible, and the organization partners with the city, schools, and the Ohio Arts Council so that people of all ages and skill levels have a place to create and connect.

Impression

The town of London is about 40 minutes west and south of Columbus. Recently had the pleasure of visiting here again, spent some time in the downtown areas, visited The Nook Coffee Shop (highly recommended) and did some walking around.

If you do, while visiting shops, restaurants, and coffee shops, also swing by and check out the London Arts Center. While there are limited hours to go inside, the outside of the building gives you some great artwork to check out!
