INSTRAGAM LIVE SESSION!
When downtown, one of our favorite places to take our pack is to Scioto Audubon Metro Park. Not only is it a great park to visit and hike for us, but they have a dog park area for the pooches to socialize and play.
If you’ve been there before, you know there are issues at times with the area and the lovely Ohio rains making the fenced in areas a muddy mess.
Here, recently, the park has been working on a new dog park area. The original dog park was at the far back corner of the park. This new area is the first section to the right as you enter the park.
Like the original dog area, there are 2 sections, one for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs (20 lbs and smaller).
The big upgrade? The areas now have astro turf instead of natural grass. This will be a great feature for those soggy Ohio Spring and Fall seasons.
Now, the area is not perfect yet…but it can be! The lead park ranger was one site and addressed everyone at the park on the day we visited. There is still a lot of improvements they plan on doing.
The parking area is still dirt and stone and they plan on adding blacktop.
Water facilities are also coming soon – so if utilizing the park, ensure to bring plenty of water with you until that utility is ready for prime time.
While the astro turf area is great, some people may still want to allow their pets to play in a natural grass environment. If that is the case, the future is bright for you as the area is large enough to accommodate a natural area and the ranger explained that this will be an option in the future. There are large double gated sections connected to the astro turf section that will lead to the allowable areas. Pretty cool!
This is a great upgrade to the existing dog friendly areas of the Scioto Audubon Metro Park and all those dog owners looking for a quality park for their “best friends”.
