Background

Designed by Franklinton resident and artist Andrew Lundberg of Lundberg Industrial Arts LLC, a giant slingshot sculpture is now installed at the Lucas Street Plaza. CASTO Communities wanted to place something there and approached Lundberg, whom they have worked on past projects.

Half a dozen design ideas were discussed, with CASTO green lighting the slingshot design concept.

The slingshot has a steel frame, but us sculpted in such a way that gives the steel a textured feel of whatever the objects material should be.

Impression

We frequent Franklinton Arts District because of the diverse options in food, entertainment and art. We visit there at least every few months to see what has changed in the area.

One of the latest art installations is the Slingshot. It is rather impressive to be sure as you approach it from street level. You can tell this was designed as a stopping point or destination for visitors of the area.

Our favorite vantage point is the top of the break wall (third image in this post) that shows the sculpture in the foreground and the iconic Leveque Tower in the background.

Franklinton has a lot to offer and this is just one more visit point for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.
